The Department of Afro-Asiatic Languages (formerly African) is one of the departments that were recently created at the Faculty of Languages, University of Tripoli. Its history dates back to 2003 under the name of the Department of African Languages, before its name was changed to the Department of Afro-Asian Languages in 2017 to include Asian languages as well as African languages.
The department consists of:
- Division of African Languages (Swahili and Hausa)
- Division of Asian Languages (Russian Language)
- The department is in the process of activating some languages, such as (Turkish).
The first person to head the department and establish it was: Prof. Dr. Abdullah Abdul Hameed bin Suwaid, and then successively chaired the department:
- Dr. Abdel Nasser Shetao
- Dr.. Khalifa Saleh Ghanem.
- Mr. Sobhi Saleh Al-Qaduli. 4. Prof. Abdul Salam Abdullah Abu Zweik
- The department is currently headed by a. Badr El Din Mohamed Salem

Mr. Badredden Mohamed E Salem
I am Professor Badredden Mohamed Salem, a faculty member at the University of Tripoli, College of Languages .. holder of a master’s degree in Swahili from the Open University of Tanzania and a holder of many training degrees from prestigious universities in business administration and intellectual design .. Marketing. I have also worked in Trading retail and in administration (administrative affairs .. and director of a private school), head of department at the University of Tripoli, collaborator with the Language Center, and I helped in concluding many educational agreements with the various Cultural Center. I have the ability to work within a team. I have quick responses to whatever my job needs. I enjoy learning I excel under pressure, I am also very passionate about any task I do. I love time at work ... I see in myself the ability to work in this field and take responsibility.
